This charming book on Magical Living, in the Practically Pagan series from Moon Books, is a reminder to slow down, to really listen to ourselves and to connect with what is best for us. Author, Maria Deblassie writes from her experience as a mixed-heritage woman growing up and living in New Mexico and discovering the experiences of her ancestors. I found it very moving to gain some awareness of how hard it was for women in South America who weren’t following the Catholic way of life – how difficult it must have been to feel free to follow their instincts as to what they felt was right.
Deblassie reminds us of the importance of being able to follow our own instinctual lifestyle and be in contact with what feels right for us. I loved the energy of the book and the subtle encouragement to live a slower, more authentic life. And An Alternative Guide to Magical Living contains realistic suggestions and examples for readers to do this, using whatever is available: perhaps just something as simple a candle or a cup of tea.
