This privacy policy tells you the types of information that is collected and recorded by us and how we use it. It applies to information we collect about:

  • People who click on an Amazon link to buy a book

Like many other web sites, and make use of log files. These files merely log visitors to the site – usually a standard procedure for hosting companies and a part of hosting services’ analytics. The information inside the log files includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date/time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. This information is used to analyze trends, administer the site, track user’s movement around the site and gather demographic information. IP addresses and other such information are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable.


When visitors leave comments on this site the data shown in the comments form is collected; also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have a WordPress account and you log in to this site a temporary cookie is set to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When you log in, several cookies save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed. If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Buying Books

We receive a small commission if you buy books via the links which are at the bottom of each book review which helps with the costs of running this website. These links go through to Amazon does not tell us any of your personal details or who buys books through our website.

Data Protection Information

We only ask for personal information necessary to deliver goods or services to our customers. We have to hold the details of the people who have requested the service in order to provide it. However, we only use these details to provide the service the person has requested and for other closely related purposes. For example Indie Shaman will ask for a person’s postal address if they win a prize in our competition so we can post the prize to them. We do not keep the prize winner’s address after we have posted the prize (unless we already had it because we provide another service to the prize winner e.g. they subscribe to Indie Shaman magazine.

If you give us your email address and ask to subscribe to our email newsletter you can ‘opt out’ at any time by emailing us or by simply replying ‘unsubscribe’ to a Newsletter.

What rights you have over your data

You can request to receive details of the personal data we hold about you including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

However, please be aware that if you are just reading the book reviews on this website, left comments or entered a competition in the past we probably don’t have any data on you!
