The Accidental Shaman
The Accidental Shaman details Charing’s fascinating personal story; beginning from him surviving the serious lift/elevator crash which opened up his healing touch and ability to see visions and hear voices, just as predicted by a healer in Italy only a week before his accident. Starting to use his abilities to heal, Charing felt he needed more guidance and training but the courses he enrolled on with a national spiritual healing organisation told him he was doing everything wrong. Then he discovered shamanism.
Related with honesty and humour, The Accidental Shaman is immensely readable. Charing shares various insightful observations and thoughts about his experiences along his own journey as well as packing the book full of information about shamanism, both contemporary and related to the healing practices in the Peruvian Amazon and Philippines. There are also a variety of useful exercises and techniques for the reader to try for themselves including exploring non-ordinary reality and working with feathers, stones and your creative potential.
The Accidental Shaman is chocked full of wisdom and Howard G. Charing is a captivating storyteller who, like me, loves puns; the book title itself having a double meaning. Highly recommended – it kept me hooked from the (very sensible) author’s advice at the beginning, “Never allow your reality to be undermined” to the rather more well known quote at the end. “May the Force be with you!”
