However, as Francis explains, the book is entitled The Shamanic Journey not just because it is about shamanic journeying but because shamanism itself is on a journey also, one of change and adaption. Written from a contemporary Western European perspective, there is a highly engrossing section in the book regarding our ‘Fall’ into ‘civilisation’: where and why in history we handed over power to a psychopathic culture; how and why we lost our knowledge of shamanism and why we need this ancient wisdom back, adapted to suit the challenges we face in the modern world.

Author, Paul Francis studied philosophy and anthropology, primarily studying tribal (shamanic) cultures and has been working as a complementary medical practitioner and psychotherapist since the early 1980s.

Containing a lot of good common sense information and advice The Shamanic Journey is perfect for beginners interested in shamanism and looking for a place to start practical application of its practices for themselves. And more than that it contains ideas on human history and our potential future that are a must read.
