If you are interested in an honest, authentic introduction to plant medicine and in particular, Ayahuasca, then this is a wonderful book to read. The information contained in this easy to read book is reinforced by the inclusion of detailed case studies and personal accounts from the author himself. It is very clear that Ross Heaven was not only passionate about Shamanic plant medicine, but was also very knowledgeable in many areas of shamanic practices, some of which he also shares in this book.
Although Ayahuasca is the main focus, there is so much more to explore in this book as each chapter includes explanations of how various other plant medicines and healing accounts are used and experienced in relation to Ayahuasca. The comprehensive case studies allow the reader to be included in the experiences and the sincerity within each account is definitely felt. The wide range of considerations around experiencing Ayahuasca is also very useful and gives the reader important points to consider, ranging from cautions, frequently asked questions, to how to approach a ceremony and much more.
Ross Heaven sadly passed away in January 2018. He was a psychologist, healer and director of The Four Gates Foundation, a leading organisation in Europe involved in the preservation and teaching of indigenous wisdom. He leaves us some of his great wisdom within the pages of his many books such as this one.
